Speaking Engagements - Highlights
2013 Community of Thinkers Summit
Presenter, Collective Impact: Innovation & Creative Change
Co-hosted by Seattle Art Museum and Pecha Kucha Night Seattle
Seattle, WA - February, 2013
20 slides X 20 seconds each slide X 5 presenters on some aspect or another of arts education. This was probably the most fun talk I've ever given. I talked about arts education as a tool for social change (activism, community building, and policy making) and got to share many of the projects that have inspired me this past year. Plus, I got to share the stage with some of Seattle's best arts + equity advocates, Daemond Arrindel, Margaret Chodos Irvine, Erin Shafkind, and Norma Barrineau (who is probably the coolest school principal ever). Gratitude to Regan Pro and Sandra Jackson-Dumont for inviting me!
Clinton Global Initiative 2011 Annual Meeting
Presenter, From Conflict to Creativity: Reducing Violence through the Arts
New York, NY - September 2011
I was honored to be invited to speak about my work developing and directing Hilltop Artists' Arts Connect program on an international panel on arts-based approaches to violence reduction. Irina Bokova, Director-General, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), moderated the panel. CGI was an incredible, whirlwind three days that included a visit from Obama and ended with live, intimate performances by Knaan and Sting.
